A midwestern state, Ohio is a very populated state with over 11.5 million residents and ranks 7th in the United States. The capital of Ohio is Columbus and it is the largest city, but the largest metro area is Cleveland. It was entered into the union in 1803 as the 17th state. Ohio ranks 34th in the nation in area but the density is ranked 10th in the nation. The name of the state was native to the Iroquois Native Americans which means “great river” or “large creek” which relates back to the the Ohio River that runs on the southern border of the state. Despite being named after the state, the river is mainly controlled by West Virginia and Kentucky. With Indiana to the west and Pennsylvania to the east, Ohio is strategically placed on the shores of Lake Erie which allow a great deal of exporting and importing through the states ports.
