About Insulated Copper Cable

Let’s Go Over Different Types of Insulated Cable:

Insulated copper wire and insulated copper cable are among the most common sources for scrap copper.  If you have a large quantity of Insulated Copper Cable, it may pay off to strip the cable for the copper inside. We suggest stripping cables that are thicker than you pinky finger. Be sure to also check the copper wire inside whether it is bare bright or tin-coated.

Now That I Have Cable…Should I Strip It?

Great question…and not always an easy one to answer. Stripping different types of cable really depends on a few different factors, the most important is how much weight you have. Having a lot of insulated cable is the first thing to figure out if and when you should strip it…also how hard it is to strip. We talk to people who are able to strip the material very easy if they heat it up by leaving it in the sun, or if they have a wire stripper.

Is Copper Cable Worth Stripping?

One thing that a lot of people forget about is your time…what is your time worth to you. If you have a very hard time stripping the cable then we suggest just selling it to the local scrap yard as an insulated cable, and not stripping it. If you have an easy time taking the outside jacket off (some jackets could be plastic, rubber, or even cloth), then strip it.

How To Tell Different Types of Copper Cable:

Tin coated copper cable will have a silver coating with the copper in the center. If you have bare bright copper wire on the inside, it will be copper all the way through. Copper is one of the more lucrative metals to scrap; keep in mind that copper cable scrap prices can fluctuate from day to day.

Should I Save My Copper Cable?

Whether its a large construction job or a small remodel, don’t trash the insulated copper cable or insulated copper scraps and get paid the current Insulated Copper Cable Scrap Prices. Take it to your scrap yard and exchange that wire or cable for some real money. Be sure investigate your local scrap yard’s policy on insulation; some will prefer that the insulation be removed first.
