About Catalytic Converters

Let’s Learn About Catalytic Converters (Cats):

If you are ripping apart cars for scrap or have a bad Catalytic Converter you are looking to scrap, you can find a scrap yard on the iScrap App. Scrap Catalytic Converters or also called, Cats, can be scrapped with your local scrap yard. Once you have found a scrap yard that accepts scrap cats, you can contact them for their most recent catalytic converter prices.

How To Sell Your Cats

The best method to sell your cat is first to find the right buyer. Without the right buyer you will not be able to get the accurate price or to really feel like you have gotten the best deal. You need to know what you have…without knowing what year, make, and model car that the catalytic converter is coming off you will not be able to really get the right price either.

The one thing that you never want to do is to cut open your catalytic converter…once you have them cut open all of the insides look the same and a buyer will not know whether it came off of a Honda or a Ford. Another thing is never to have the entire pipe still connected to the cat because you want the buyer to be able to look inside and see how full the honeycomb inside is so you get paid correctly.

How Many Types of Catalytic Converters Are There?

There are many types of catalytic converters and depending on who you are dealing with there are many types of names for the different cats. From Large Foreign Cats to Standard Domestic you never know what type of catalytic converter that you have until you are able to find a reputable company that buys the cats from you.

How To Tell The Difference In Cats?

Some scrap cats prices depend on the year, make, and model of the car that it had come from so you can get the best Catalytic Converters Scrap Prices. Be sure to know that before bring your scrap cats to the scrap yard. Also do not remove the “honeycomb” from inside of the catalytic converter, as some some scrap yards may pay you a less price for the scrap cat.

How Do We Learn About Different Catalytic Converters?

Catalytic converters seem to be one of, if not the hardest scrapping item to sell. There are a lot of websites out there that have different names for cats and different grading for them as well. Some websites will grade the cats based off of the numbers that are located and stamped on them while others will do it off of the type of vehicle that it is off of.

Is there a right or a wrong way? There are multiple right answers for selling cats but one of things that we have found by talking to iScrappers is to look at the reviews. To see what other people have said about those buyers says a lot and can really make a big difference when you go to sell your cats.

Is the cat full? It is an easy question to answer just by looking into both ends of the catalytic converter. By looking in and seeing the honeycomb you will know that it is full and that you have a full cat. One thing that we NEVER suggest is taking the material out from inside of the cat. This makes it very tough for the scrap yard to figure out because a lot of honeycomb all looks the same.
