8/25/16 Scrap Price Update: 3rd Week Ferrous Prices Jump

Hey iScrappers!

In the last week we have seen the copper market take a bit of a beating with prices dropping about $0.10 per lb overall. After the nice climb that we saw for the last month or so this is disappointing news but as scrappers…we know that you can bear it, but with steel there is a little good news…let’s talk about that.

Low Grade Circuit Board Scrap Prices

Ferrous Scrap Pricing for August 2016

The steel and iron markets have picked up for a third consecutive week with prices jumping another $5-10 per ton. We have seen steady growth and a lot of people are saying that is due to a lot of the poor quality in material that is out there…so what does that mean?

A lot of larger scrap yards are holding onto their good quality steel like P & S, #1 HMS, and Cast Iron until they see a increase in the steel markets. Because of that a lot of the materials that are being delivered to scrap yards and then to mills are of a much lower quality.

Here are some of the reported prices over the last week:

  • Rochester, NY: Light Iron, $131 per ton, (8/25/16)
  • Kalispell, MT: $30 per ton for cars, (8/25/16)
  • Salt Lake City, UT: per ton for Shreddable Steel (8/24/16)
  • Little Rock, AK: $50 per ton for Light Iron (8/24/16)
  • Terre Haute, IN: per ton for Tin (8/23/16)
  • Colorado Springs, CO: $100 for light iron (8/22/16)
  • Connelly Springs, NC: $0.05 per lb for Light Iron (8/21/16)

Non-Ferrous Scrap Pricing for August 2016

While the aluminum markets have been improved we have seen the copper prices dip about ten cents per lb, but at least we have one of the markets with an upside.

Here are some of the reported prices over the last week:

  • Rochester, NY: Lead Batteries, $0.25 per lb (8/25/16)
  • Dartmouth, Nova Scotia: #2 Tubing, $1.50 per lb (8/24/16)
  • Dallas, NC: Aluminum Cans, $0.30 per lb (8/23/16)
  • Sun Valley, NC: Bare Bright, $1.82 per lb (8/21/16)
  • Lafayette, LA: Aluminum Sheet, $0.50 per lb (8/20/16)

Hopefully we can see some of the markets improving over the next few weeks/month. But with Labor Day and the end of the summer here it is always a guessing game.

Scrap ya later!
