10/5/16 Scrap Price Update: Copper Prices Leveling Out This Week

Hey iScrappers!

We hope in the last week you have been as excited about the reported prices that we have seen flying up from scrappers all over the US and Canada. We have seen hundreds of prices being thrown up and because of people like YOU posting them online. Let’s go over the state of the scrap markets and go from there.

Where Have We Been Since 2015?

We all know that the scrap market has been suffering for a couple years and we are seeing some significant changes in pricing for higher valued commodities like copper. You can see in the chart below that there is an obvious drop in prices being reported for bare bright copper wire on the iScrap App Website. It’s important to stay updated on our latest market news and information. Be sure to check the blog for current prices and more.

Non-Ferrous Scrap Market Update

The markets have improved over the last week with the copper prices leveling out after that nice jump that we saw last week. After some news from OPEC about the oil production being cut the copper and aluminum markets saw a bit of a rally…but we did see gold prices get hit with its lowest single day drop in about 4 years on Tuesday, 10/4.

Recent Non-Ferrous Scrap Prices:

  • Rochester, NY: Cast Aluminum, $0.40 per lb (10/5/16)
  • Rogers, AR: #2 Tubing, 0.63 per lb (10/4/16)
  • Oakley, CA: Aluminum Cans, $1.60 per lb (10/4/16)
  • Sacramento, CA: Brass, $0.95 per lb (10/4/16)
  • Halifax, NC: Bare Bright, $1.53 per lb (10/4/16)

  • Cadet, MO: #1 Tubing, $1.30 per lb (10/2/16)

Ferrous Scrap Market Update

Wow…these steel, iron, and other ferrous prices have been rough. With the prices going close to the lowest points that we saw earlier this year there seems to be no sign of improvements anytime soon. We have seen the markets get hit very hard and because of that we continue to see the prices overall weakening. The higher grades of steel like prepared #1 and Cast Iron prices have gotten hitten the most….while Light Iron pricing has been one bright spot with the market not moving too much.

Recent Ferrous Scrap Prices:

  • Rochester, NY: Light Iron, $96 per ton (10/5/16)
  • Monroe, MI: #1 Steel, $62 per ton (10/3/16)
  • Coldwater, MI: #1 Steel, $50 per ton (10/2/16)
  • Port Alberni, BC: Cast Iron, $50 per ton (10/2/16)

Don’t forget to continue to post your prices and keep checking with yards around you to see what their prices are. Scrap ya later!
